The nice folks at Chances Dances will be hosting the Write to Win Collective and the Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois at their monthly queer dance party in January to help raise funds to keep these two projects going! Hope to see you there!

TJLP cordially invites you to a

Volunteer Mobilizing Weekend!

We are gathering for 2 days in Union Pier, Michigan (1.5 hours from Chicago) at a farm collective called The Chicory Center for some beautiful community building and space sharing. Plan on spending the night! You can camp or sleep in the farm house.

Join us as we discuss The Prison Industrial Complex and Trans issues, Checking Your Privilege in Organizing, and Volunteer/Contribution Opportunities with TJLP. We are starting a variety of new and exciting projects including a trans prisoner ‘zine, a penpal/correspondence program with folks on the inside, and grassroots radical funding strategies. We need you! And, of course, we’ll have food, collective knowledge, and a fierce dance party!

We have limited space so are taking RSVP’s. Please send your RSVP to LisaMarie at lisa@tjlp.org to secure your spot. Please let us know the following with your RSVP:

1) Do you have a car or would you need a rideshare? Where are you located?
2) Are you able to donate food stuff for the retreat?
3) Do you have any needs for accessibility, translation, dietary restrictions, and/or comfortability we can account for ahead of time?
4) Do you prefer to sleep inside or outside (farmhouse or camping)?

Dearest Friends and Allies of the TJLP,

We are reaching out to you for resource sharing and support. TJLP has grown up too fast for its britches! We are seeking new digs. We have been living out of Beyond Media’s office space in exchange for grant writing and have out-grown our space.

We’re seeking a space with a private room for attorney/client meetings. Accessibility is important (bathrooms, public transportation, safety). And most importantly, we are seeking free/cheap. We are able to make contributions or trade in exchange for living space. We come with a wide variety of skillsets that we can share.

We are house-trained and charming. And extremely flexible. If you have any ideas, thoughts, dreams, or know a guy…please pass this email on and contact Lisa (lisa@tjlp.org), Lauren (lauren@tjlp.org), or Owen (owen@tjlp.org).

Thank you so much for making TJLP’s dreams come true…the skillshare was a huge success and a truly beautiful experience. Thank you for your energy, support, inspiration, brilliance, and contributions to the collective experience. Some beautiful knowledge was truly built.

……to do a skillshare with you!!!

Friday, February 20th 6-9pm

Dinner and knowledge will be served! (vegan-friendly)
Bring your extra change to throw in our piggy bank. $.05 – $50 suggested donation.

The purpose of the skillshare is to build a collective consciousness about issues facing the communities we work with/are a part of. For this first skillshare, we have chosen the following topics:

Trans Legal Issues 101
An Introduction to the Cook County Criminal Legal System
Sex Trade and Sex Worker Rights

The Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois (TJLP) is a collective of radical lawyers, social workers, activists, and community organizers who are deeply committed to prison abolition, transformative justice, and gender self-determination.
